BIKES AND BAPTISM!

BIKES AND BAPTISM!

Okay so this week wasn't anything unusually special, just continuing on! But we did get bikes this week which we are super excited about because our area is huge and we spend so much time walking... but I have to say.. my butt is a litttttttttle sore hahah. And we're figuring out the skirt thing.. its quite the challenge.

My investigadors:
First off, given the title of my letter, yes... baptism!!! However, not in my area, BUTTTT I am counting it as my baptism because its Pedro!! The older shy gentleman from Rosita that I taught for a few weeks before I was transfered. He is getting baptized this upcoming Saturday!! Techincally he is the baptism of the sisters in Rosita right now, but I am counting him as mine because I am the one that contacted him and pushed to keep visitng him when my companions weren't really focusing on him.. and I taught the first two of the three main lessons and set his baptismal date all before I was transfered soo yeah. Maybe I am selfish, but I feel like I played a big role in his baptism haha. I am going to ask for permission to attend the baptism because its in my zone and I think it will be granted. Pretty excited!!! My first baptism!!

Estela, the jaw-dropping Other Testment of Christ investigator. She is quite the character. She is hard core Catholic.... but she secretly is Christian. She listens to Christian pastors in her home and everything, but doesn't let anyone know about it. She talks A LOT and we are having some trouble with her because she doesn't quite understand that the Book of Mormon is evidence that the church is true (and she told us she knows the Book of Mormon is true.. she read well into 2 Nefi by the time we visited her this week). She kind of just is adding it to her collection of religious books, but she does knows its true. SHE LOVES IT. Hermana Barnard and I have been praying and studying and planning for days for our lessons with her this week. We truly are seeking to follow the Spirit because we kind of are at a loss. Its hard to describe the situtation in such a short amount of time and with so little words, but  she is quite the character. Hahaha I love her, she's great, just a challenge in the way of being an investigator. But we kind of get her with cliff hangers every time we leave so that she is anxious for us to return. Thats a little fun haha. Then we have to pray and study and plan like no other.

Mere should be getting baptized soon. Enrique FINALLY is motivated since Mere threated to kick him out and have restriction papers (I don't remember what they are called) against him if he didn't take care of it, cause she just wants to be baptized. She is so stinking cute cause she is so fiery and sassy , but when Enrique finally got moving on taking care of his divorce, she was really happy. But pretended it didn't actually matter to her hahah she's so snooty, I love it.

Javier is feeling better and he accepted the Word of Wisdom without hesitation. He told us he had stopped drinking coffee when we started teaching him, feeling like he didn't need it anymore, and then here we are presenting the Word of Wisdom. He had no problems with it and then took us out to get millk and bread. Hahahah my first word of wisdom lesson and we go out for leche y pan. He is out of town for a week for work, but hopefully he accepts to return to church when he returns.

We have a few other investigators who are in the works, but updates on them in the future if much else becomes of it.

So a little update on the culture here: We eat like NO vegetables (i need to buy a multivitamin or something, I am sure I'm falta of a lot now). The people of northern Mexico aren't exactly that in shape or eat very healthy hahah.. we basically eat meat, tortillas, rice, and beans. And its not like good meat.. its like fatty and oh my gosh sometimes I cant take it. Sometimes I find that I am eating straight fat... I've gotten a lot sneekier on spitting it out. Look up what moli is.. its a really popular dish here. I am honestly kind of disgusted by it.

We also did a service project with the young men this week at Mere's house (she only has one leg and is in a wheelchair) so we made pancakes to serve them when they were done. Long story short, the young men are just as oblivious here and in the US. I, being the one with the most limited knowledge of spanish, was telling everyone what to do and teaching how to wash dishes properly. Here I am in a skirt, huddled around a bucket of water and soap, standing in mud, and teaching young men how to clean. Hahaha the Roberts leadership part of me came out. The young men's president, who is like 29 (whom I was also teaching and telling what to do haha) told me I would make a good wife. Both awkward and... well... kind of true given the circumstances. Hahah.

Love you allllllllllllll, have a good week!!

Con amor,
Hermana Roberts
