Week Two!!
This week was far better
than last, simply because we are now in a routine and I feel like myself
again!! I feel like Kirsten Roberts learning how to share her testimony
and teaching principles rather than Hermana Roberts trying to be a
missionary speaking spanish. Hallelujah!! I am enjoying being a
missionary and am so grateful for this opportunity! It's not all flowers
in sunshine. In fact, every night I have the strongest desire to get
out and drive through the canyon with the windows down.. hahah but
that's just me. I love the summer and air and it drives me crazy I can't
enjoy it like I would like to.
So first some bad news... this whole past week I
have had some problems with the back of my right foot. I thought I was
just getting blisters from my shoe, but I didn't have any open lesions
and mole skin did absolutely nothing for it. After like 5-6 days I went
to the podiatrist and it turns out I have something called a halgan? (I
can't remember what it's called now because I'm pressed for time haha)
but basically its like a bone spur on my calcaneous (in the achilles
region) and it causes a lot of pain because its pushing against my
tendon and a nerve when I wear shoes. I haven't been wearing my shoe
really because it's too painful. The podiatrist gave me this sleeve
thing that puts gel padding over the region and my shoes are currently
being "stretched" at a shoe store to relieve any pressure being put on
the area. I am hoping and praying that will be enough. If worst comes to
worst, the podiatrist said the only way to actually fix it is surgery.
But that isn't exactly the best option for me right now (obviously) so
we're trying the "conservative measures" first to see if they are
enough. My mission is all walking (A LOT) so my feet are kind of
essential. Mom and Dad, will you ask Uncle Matt about this? I would like
a second opinion. BUT I can tell you that I'm positive and most of the
time I don't worry about it! The Lord with provide and all is well. I
want more than anything to be here.
2nd thing.. my permanent retainer broke this week
hahahaha (of course, right?) but it's all taken care of and no worries
there either.
Okay in the way of awesome stuff
this week, we had a devotion given by Elder Christofferson on Tuesday!!
And guess who else was present... Elder Oaks, Ballard, Nelson, and
Bednar. And the whole presidency of the seventy! I wanted to run up to
President Costa and be like "Hey, I'm Jonathan Roberts' daughter!" but
that couldn't happen haha. I was able to sing in the choir and we sang a
beautiful and powerful arrangement of "Praise to the Man". We also had a
devotional given by Janice Cap Perry and her husband on Sunday and
hahaha they are so funny!! They had the entire MTC rolling in laughter
for like a solid 5 minutes.
Hermana Bullock and myself are getting better as
teachers. Our new approach in having less notes and listening to the
Spirit more has made a miraculous difference. We have two new
investigators and our lessons went really well with them this week. I am
becoming more confident with the language and don't think so hard about
what I am going to say next, but rather just listen to the investigator
and the Spirit. I LOVE personal study time and I received some amazing
personal insight this week. It is so great to have time set aside for
that kind of study. We also get to go to the temple every week on p-day
and it is WONDERFUL!!! The Provo temple is BEAUTIFUL!!
A really cool experience this week was that I had
the elders in my district give me a priesthood blessing. At this point, I
didn't know what was wrong with my foot and wasn't worried (still
thought it was just a bruise or blister), but I felt like I should give
the elders the opportunity to exercise their priesthood since they were
so willing. It was amazing to sit in the center of our classroom with
just our district present and have those elders (18-20 year olds) give
me a blessing. So young and SO worthy to hold the priesthood. And I
won't expound on it too much, but I know it was inspired of the Lord to
have them give it to me. I letter felt impressed that that moment was
necessary for a young man in the group and I am so glad I heeded the
prompting.
I know without a doubt this church is true. The Lord
is ever present in our lives and we just have to be willing to listen
to His message. I am learning so much, especially about the Spirit, and I
challenge each of you to pray to have the Spirit more in your life.
Have you ever prayed to know how the Spirit speaks to YOU? It's
different for everyone and it's important to understand how it works for
you personally. Just ask, and ye shall receive.
I will try and attach some photos, but it doesn't always work. :)
I love and miss you all mucho!!
Con amor,
Hermana Roberts
