First Letter from Mexico

Hola everyone!! This will be short becuase I spent a lot of time writing family personally this week, but I am in Mexico!!! My area is Nueva Rosita and it is HOT HOT HOT. Word on the street is that it's the hottest area... ayayaya. We just moved apartments today because our other one was too small and I am grateful because we didn't have any AC and it was TINY. We need a bigger one because we actually are in a companionship of three!! My companions are Hermana Machuca from Mexico and Hermana Peñaranda from Columbia! They both are native spanish speakers... luckily Hermana Machuca knows a little English, but we always speak spanish. Okay.. I say that lightly.. they always speak spanish and I mostly don't say anything because I'm struggling with the spanish thing. Basically I don't know what anyone is saying ever and its most frustrating than I would every imagine. I have this vision of the missionary I want to be and I can't be there right now becua...

One Month Down!

(This post is out of order. Chronologically, it comes before "Last P-Day in the MTC") HOLA!! This week has gone by pretty quickly!! We work really hard and I have devoted myself to focusing more and I have come to love being here. If I ask the Lord to help me in my efforts, then I have to be willing to put in the work. It's just how it works :).  Quick update on feet: After some hastle, I have finally gotten approval from my mission president to wear open back shoes/sandals in the mission field!! HALLELUJAH!! So today my companion and I get to go shoe shopping! Hehe :). Mom and Dad-- I'll be using my debit card for this and I'm not exactly sure how many pairs/how much I will be spending, but hey, I'm a girl and I get to buy new shoes.. sooooo ;). Chiste, ya'll know I'm practical.  So Friday was the 4th and it wasn't quite as exciting here as it may be outside the MTC, but everyone wear appropriate colors! We were able to h...

LAST P-DAY IN THE MTC!!

Image
I head out Monday morning for Mexico!! No problems with my visa and as far as I know everything is on track for me to go. Mom and Dad, I should be allowed to call home from the airport so (if all goes well) expect to hear from me on Monday . I don't know if I will call before leaving Salt Lake (sometime around 10:30-11:30 I'm assuming) or during the layover in Houston (around 4ish?) but I will call the home phone, so look forward to that!! I sure am! OH MY GOSH I'M GOING TO MEXICO ON MONDAY ! Not too much in the way of exciting news this week, but definitely a good week! The time has actually been going by very quickly. This week we taught our last several lessons with investigators which was bitter sweet. Both accepted baptism and have been preparing for that this past week as we have taught them the laws and commandments and they are progressing, and our in-active member is now going to church and working with repentance in order to be worthy to take t...

Week 3

Image
Hola mi familia y amigos, Week 3 down!! This week definitely went faster which is a relief. The regular routine is still intact which is honestly pretty dang boring, but that's okay because I am thankful for this time to prepare. Some really cool stuff happened this week though!! 1) I gave a talk in church on Sunday (all in Spanish)! Everyone has to prepare a talk every week and they don't call on people to speak until we are already sitting in sacrament and the branch presidency is conducting. As soon as the meeting started I could feel it was going to be.. and sure enough.. they called on Hermana Roberts! I spoke on the Gift of the Holy Ghost, only for like 4-5 minutes, but still challenging considering it's all in Spanish! But I felt really good about it and I had several people comment on how my spanish is progressing. I don't necessarily feel like it is, but I appreciate the encouragement :).  2) There are SO MANY ELDERS!! Now that high schoo...

Week Two!!

Image
This week was far better than last, simply because we are now in a routine and I feel like myself again!! I feel like Kirsten Roberts learning how to share her testimony and teaching principles rather than Hermana Roberts trying to be a missionary speaking spanish. Hallelujah!! I am enjoying being a missionary and am so grateful for this opportunity! It's not all flowers in sunshine. In fact, every night I have the strongest desire to get out and drive through the canyon with the windows down.. hahah but that's just me. I love the summer and air and it drives me crazy I can't enjoy it like I would like to.  So first some bad news... this whole past week I have had some problems with the back of my right foot. I thought I was just getting blisters from my shoe, but I didn't have any open lesions and mole skin did absolutely nothing for it. After like 5-6 days I went to the podiatrist and it turns out I have something called a halgan? (I can't re...
